While fans and the organization were hoping for more, I am personally still glad the Rangers brought Bochy in and finally won it all.
However, it has not really gone particularly well since the 2023 season. The Rangers were under .500 in 2024 and right at .500 this past season.
With the Bochy era over, the Rangers wasted no time in hiring their next manager from within. And the man was Skip Schumaker.A New Era
Schumaker was named the 2023 National League manager of the year while managing the Miami Marlins before leaving the team during the 2024 season because of a family emergency.
His playing career spanned from 2001 to 2016.
Then, in November of 2024, the Rangers hired him to serve as a senior advisor to the president of baseball operations, Chris Young.
“I am honored and excited for this opportunity to manage the Rangers,” Schumaker said in a press release.
“While I attained a good understanding of the organization through my front office role this past season, the conversations with Chris Young, Ross Fenstermaker, and others this week have only intensified my interest in this opportunity. I can’t wait to begin the work for 2026.”
Schumaker is now the 21st full-time manager in the club’s history. He is tasked with taking an already underperforming club that is expected to make payroll cuts for the 2026 season.
“Only one team wins every year, and it’s very hard to do. But I’m very proud of the health of this organization,” President of Baseball Operations Chris Young said, according to texasrangers.com.
“Results are measured not only by the Major League team, but throughout the organization. I’m proud of where we are and how we function. There’s always room for improvement, but I believe we are a championship organization.”
Roster Changes
Some of the Rangers’ young talent was on display during their September win streak, and they will play a pivotal role going forward as the Rangers look to save money.
The Rangers are losing most of their bullpen, as well as some position players and starters. They are not expected to be big spenders in the free agent market.
It will be fun to watch and see what Schumaker can do with a young team, and what this team will look like going forward.
