Seattle Mariners right-handed pitcher Bryce Miller will start Game 4 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday as the M’s look to close out the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson announced Miller as the Game 4 starter after Seattle took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series with an 8-4 win over Detroit on Tuesday night.
‘Vintage’ Logan Gilbert dazzles in Mariners’ Game 3 win
Wednesday’s first pitch will be at 12:08 p.m. That was made official with the New York Yankees’ Game 3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night in the other ALDS series. The M’s would have played at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday if the Blue Jays had completed a sweep of the Yankees.
As the fifth starter in Seattle’s rotation, Miller was expected to move to the bullpen for the postseason. However, with 2025 All-Star and top Mariners starter Bryan Woo not on the team’s ALDS roster as he continues to rehab from inflammation in his pectoral muscle, the 27-year-old Miller will be called upon to start Game 4.
After making his MLB debut in 2023, Miller emerged as one of the AL’s best pitchers in 2024. But this season, he was limited to just 18 starts while spending two stints on the injured list with elbow inflammation.
Miller posted a 5.68 ERA in 90 1/3 innings this season, while recording 74 strikeouts and 34 walks. Since returning from his second IL stint on Aug. 19, he logged a 5.62 ERA in eight starts.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, Mariners Game 3 starter Logan Gilbert had some glowing praise for Miller on Tuesday night.
“Logan Gilbert told me after the game that right now, Bryce Miller’s stuff is as good as it has ever been,” Morosi said. “A very good sign indeed for the Seattle Mariners.”
