Phillies vs. Dodgers Prediction

The Philadelphia Phillies (0-2) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (2-0) will play Game 3 of the NLDS on Wednesday night in a series that could potentially come to an end. The Dodgers were able to win the first two games on the road, and need just one more win to head to the NLCS and eliminate the Phils. Philadelphia will start Aaron Nola (6.01 ERA) with Los Angeles sending out Yoshinobu Yamamoto (2.49 ERA). First pitch is set for 9:08 EST and can be found on TBS. Philadelphia Down to their Last Loss

The Philadelphia Phillies are one loss away from ending their season in this NLDS matchup, and need to string together three consecutive wins to stay alive. The games have been tight, as they lost the first game 5-3, and the second game 4-3, but Philly still needs to find a way to get over the hump. In Game 2, the Phillies scored two runs in the ninth inning, but were not able to close the gap in the one-run loss.

Nick Castellanos had a two-run double in the ninth inning, but was left stranded as the team lost by one run. These were his first two RBIs of the postseason, but he is only batting .167 through the first three games. Castellanos finished the season with 17 home runs and 72 RBIs while batting .250 at the plate. The Phillies’ lineup is full of heavy hitters, but the offense did not generate any home runs in the first two games of this series. Kyle Schwarber led the team with 56 home runs and 132 RBIs in the regular season, but is 0-7 over these two games. Bryce Harper is only batting 1-7, and will be asked upon to step up to help lead the offense in Game 3.

Aaron Nola will start here for the Phillies after starting 17 games in the regular season. He had a 5-10 record and a 6.01 ERA to go with his 97 to 28 strikeout to walk ratio. In his most recent outing, he pitched eight innings, allowing just one earned run in a win over the Twins.

Dodgers Look to Clinch

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one game away from getting to the NLCS, and hopefully making a return to the World Series after their magical run last season. Los Angeles has been manufacturing just enough wins to pull away in the first two games, winning by a combined three runs though the first two games. Blake Snell was excellent on the mound in Game 2, he pitched six scoreless winnings while giving up just one hit in the win.

The scoring started in the seventh inning, as the first six innings all went scoreless in the pitcher’s duel. Teoscar Hernandez got on base first, then, with the strong baserunning, scored on a play at the plate that survived Philly’s challenge. Hernandez has led the team in all offensive categories in the postseason, which has consisted of two games against Cincinnati and two more here. He is batting .412 with three home runs and nine RBIs. Shohei Ohtani had an RBI in the seventh inning, after Will Smith knocked in two runs with the bases loaded in the seventh.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto will make his second start of the postseason, as he started Game 2 in the win over the Reds. In that game he pitched 6.2 innings while allowing just two hits and no earned runs. In the regular season his ERA was 2.49 to go with his 12-8 record and 201-59 strikeout to walk ratio.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers picksMoneyline pick and prediction for Phillies vs. Dodgers Dodgers -1.5 +125 (4 units)

The Dodgers are the play here, but if you want to make money, you’ll have to lay the extra run. The Dodgers are -180 favorites in this matchup, but are plus money to win by two or more. The Dodgers won three of their four playoff games by two or more, and will cover again as their team has all the momentum and the better pitcher on the mound. The Phillies got the first-round bye, but it threw off their rhythm as their offense has stalled greatly. Philly did not hit any home runs in their first two games, with Harper and Schwarber going for a combined 1-14 at the plate. Yamamoto is the better pitcher in this matchup, as his regular-season ERA was 2.49 against Nola’s 6.01. The Dodgers end the series here at home.

Take the Dodgers to cover the runline.

Over/Under Pick for Phillies vs. Dodgers

The total in all of the first three games of this series has been 7.5, but we will see this one go over as one team looks to advance to the next round. The Dodgers have more momentum, have Hernandez and Ohtani seeing the ball well at the plate, and a lineup full of high-quality role players who will step up against Nola. The Phillies’ starter had an ERA over 6.00 this season, and is being forced into action here after they sent out two of their best starters in the first two losses. Philly’s offense has to wake up sooner or later, as odds are Schwarber and Harper cannot stay down for long. Expect more runs in this exciting potential elimination game.

Take the over.
