Matchups and dates for the District 2 baseball and softball playoffs were announced Sunday. While softball begins as scheduled, the baseball tournament was pushed back because of inclement weather and several teams needing extra days to complete either their full schedule or as many games as possible.

The baseball quarterfinals get underway Tuesday and Wednesday. The Class 1A semifinal between Forest City and MMI Prep is scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at MMI Prep. Championship games will be played at neutral sites because of the late start to the tournament.

In Class 2A, Lackawanna Trail plays at Old Forge on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The rest of the bracket will be played Wednesday. Holy Redeemer is the top seed and hosts Blue Ridge. Mountain View is at Wyoming Seminary and Holy Cross plays at Elk Lake. All start times for the games will be 4:30 p.m.

Also Tuesday, Dunmore, the 3A top seed, will receive a first-round bye. Other games are Lakeland at Montrose, Western Wayne at Lake-Lehman and Carbondale at Riverside, all at 4:30 p.m.

In 4A, Valley View plays at Scranton Prep on Tuesday. The remaining games are Wednesday. Top seed Mid Valley will host Nanticoke Area at 6 p.m. Honesdale plays at Wyoming Area and Berwick plays at Crestwood, both at 4:30 p.m.

Pittston Area is the top seed with Abington Heights the No. 2 seed in the 5A bracket. Both have first-round byes. Wallenpaupack plays at Dallas and West Scranton plays at North Pocono on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Hazleton Area, the top seed in the 6A subregional, and Williamsport, the No. 2 seed, have first-round byes. On Tuesday night at 7, Delaware Valley plays at Scranton. On Wednesday, Wyoming Valley West plays at Wilkes-Barre Area at 4:30 p.m.

There is no admission fee for quarterfinal-round games.

The Class 1A, 3A and 5A championship games are scheduled for May 27. The Class 2A, 4A and 6A championship games are slated for May 28.

Softball

The District 2 softball playoffs begin Monday with quarterfinal games in Class 2A, 5A and 6A. The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, with the finals scheduled for May 27 at a site and time to be announced.

The Class 1A, 3A and 4A tournaments begin Tuesday with quarterfinal matchups.

In all classes, quarterfinal and semifinal games will be played at the home field of the higher-seeded team.

Games scheduled for Monday in Class 2A are Lackawanna Trail at Montrose, Blue Ridge at Dunmore and Mountain View at Holy Redeemer. In 5A, Crestwood is at Delaware Valley and Shikellamy is at Pittston Area. In 6A, Valley West is at West Scranton and Scranton is at Wilkes-Barre Area. All are 4:30 p.m. starts.

On Tuesday in 3A, Carbondale Area is at Western Wayne and Lakeland is at Riverside. Hanover Area is at Tunkhannock, Wyoming Area is at Wallenpaupack, Berwick is at Dallas and Scranton Prep is at Valley View in Class 4A, with all games starting at 4:30 p.m. The Class 1A playoffs begin Thursday with Susquehanna at Holy Cross and Forest City at Old Forge at 4:30 p.m.

The No. 1 seeds are Holy Cross, Class 1A; Elk Lake, 2A; Lake-Lehman, 3A; Tunkhannock, 4A; Abington Heights, 5A; and Williamsport, 6A.

There is no admission fee for the quarterfinals.

The Class 2A, 5A and 6A championship games are scheduled for May 27. The Class 1A, 3A and 4A championship games are slated for May 28.
