CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Reds outfielder Rece Hinds burst onto the MLB scene in July of 2024 with a historic first week. Now he’s set a another record this season.
Hinds hit five homers, three doubles, and one triple in his first 22 at-bats last season. The nine extra-base hits were the most by any player in his first six games in major league history.
He also had 11 RBI in that stretch to become the first rookie ever to hit three home runs and drive in eight runs during his first five games.
Unfortunately, Hinds went 1-for-12 with five strikeouts and was then sent down. He returned to the team late in the season, only to finish 0-for-8 with three walks in his final 11 trips to the plate.
The outfielder was recalled again in August, but mostly rode the pine in a reserve role. Hinds was 0-for-8 with three walks and three strikeouts over his final 11 plate appearances of the season.
In 24 games he was 12-for-51 with five home runs, four doubles, and the one triple.
Hinds was recalled from Louisville in early May and took the field in Atlanta for two games, at Houston for two games and then two other contests at Great American Ball Park. That included Saturday’s matchup against the Guardians. Hinds hit a solo homer — his second in 2025 and just his third hit of any kind in 17 at-bats — and put his name in the record books again.
Hinds has 15 career hits and 13 have gone for extra bases. Per OptaStats, no other MLB player in the modern era has had that many extra-base hits among his first 15 career hits.
