NEW YORK – Attention Yankee fans and Port Jervis community viewers! If able, you may want to have your television on by 6:30 p.m. tonight and tuned in to FS1 (Channel 72 in the Port Jervis area). Port Jervis’ hometown Broadway performer Patrick Dunn will be broadcast on that channel as he sings America’s National Anthem, helping to open the 7 p.m. game at Yankee Stadium.
In addition to singing the Star-Spangled Banner, Dunn was nonchalantly asked by the Yankees if he happened by chance to know Canada’s national anthem as well, the nation of the team the Yankees are playing tonight.
Fortunately, Dunn was able to answer that it just so happened that he does. Dunn’s wife Emma and her family are from Canada, where they spend much of their time, and he has dual citizenship with Canada himself.
It is worth noting that Dunn also performed during the Seventh Inning Stretch at Yankee Stadium last week. Currently a cast member of MAMMA MIA! On Broadway, he had been asked to sing God Bless America for the veterans in attendance at least week’s name, and for the viewers at home. Following the performance Dunn’s parents shared that the son of a WWII veteran reached out and said his father was so touched by his song that he wanted to give him the hat he wore in the war.
The Yankees were also impressed. He was quickly invited back to the stadium. This time he is not only helping to the open the game, but presenting the anthem of two nations.
