PAW PAW, Mich. — October is a little different at the Berrington’s house in Paw Paw.

Many people decorate their house and yards for Halloween with the typical, reoccurring characters such as spiders, witches, and ghosts.

Skeletons are often included in that list as well, commonly fashioned in ways to be frighting or even a little silly.

However, the skeletons in the Berrington’s yard were not set up to scare; they were set up to play ball.

Linda Berrington, a Detroit Tigers fan with an affinity for Halloween, has a skeletal baseball game happening right in her front yard, or as she liked to call it, her “field of screams.”

The Tigers are in the outfield, taking on the Cleveland Indians with a score of 4-8.

“I really like baseball, I really like Halloween, so there you go. Tigers are in a playoff. So here we have Halloween-inspired baseball,” Berrington said.

Not only does she just really like Halloween, Berrington appreciates that it’s a time where being a little different is embraced.

“It just takes you outside of your normal life,” she said. “You can change what you want to do in Halloween, you can dress up in Halloween. It takes you out of what you normally do.”

Berrington’s display of undead sportsmanship not only attracts the neighbors, who say the light display resembles a landing strip, but she also notices other people driving by to take pictures.

“There’s a whole church group that’s posting, and I guess on their site,” she said. “We’ve lived here for more than 30 years, so most people in our area know us. But, I love it because I just do it myself…and it feels good when other people appreciate your art and what you enjoy.”

Berrington noted that she is not a big Christmas person — Halloween is her favorite holiday.
