JACKSON CO., Okla. (KSWO) – State Baseball tournaments across Oklahoma begins on Thursday and one team in Southwest Oklahoma sent their team out in a special way ahead of the first round.
Navajo Public Schools hosted a mini-parade for their baseball team as they hit the road Wednesday afternoon.
Students from elementary up to high school packed out the streets near the school to wave the team goodbye.
It’s a tradition that’s gone on for years and some of the members of the team have been looking forward to since they were young.
“You know, we ride the fire truck down, we go back, say hi to all the little kids, give them all high fives,” Junior Jake Lingel said. “I mean, as a little kid that was my favorite part about it. Seeing all the older guys, wanting to be like them.”
“I’d always dream of being in the state tournament when I was younger,” Sophomore Kanyon Mertz added. “I’ve been here all my life. I’ve seen those parades, been in a couple of them. I love it.”
The Indians play Arapho-Butler at 4 p.m. on Oct. 9 in Shawnee.
