Managers Pat Murphy and Craig Counsell both decided to sleep on who their starting pitcher would be in Game 4 of the Milwaukee Brewers-Chicago Cubs National League Division Series at Wrigley Field Oct. 9.
Perhaps it was because no starter who has pitched in the first inning so far for either team over the first three games of the series has gotten through a frame unscathed.
The two teams combined for 18 runs in the opening inning (Milwaukee 10, Chicago 8). The Cubs did all of their offensive damage before they had made a third out in Game 3 and extended the best-of-five series with a 4-3 victory. The Brewers also scored an early run to open the game, but missed an opportunity for more.
While staff ace Freddy Peralta is on full rest and seems like the logical option to pitch Game 4, the Brewers’ bullpen has also allowed just one run in 18 innings during the series.
