EDNA, Texas — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an infant who was found unresponsive Friday afternoon at a home on County Road 131.
Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene around 4:40 p.m. after receiving a call about the unresponsive child, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. Officials said the child was under the care of a babysitter at the time.
First responders performed life-saving measures before transporting the infant to Jackson County Hospital District, where the child was later pronounced dead.
The sheriff’s office said the case remains under active investigation in coordination with the Texas Rangers, the Medical Examiner’s Office and Child Protective Services. No further details have been released.
