Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi underwent surgery today for a sports hernia, per Jeff Wilson. The recovery time for such a surgery is six to eight weeks, and thus Eovaldi is expected to be at full strength for the start of spring training.
Eovaldi, 35, had an excellent season for the Rangers, putting up a 1.73 ERA and 2.80 FIP in 130 innings over 20 games. He missed roughly a month in June due to a triceps issue, and then was shut down in late August due to a rotator cuff strain.
Eovaldi is under contract with the Rangers through the 2027 season, and the Rangers will be counting heavily on him to front, along with Jacob deGrom, a rotation that is seeing Merrill Kelly, Patrick Corbin, Tyler Mahle and Jon Gray all hit the free agent market. Eovaldi was a key part of the 2023 Rangers team that won the World Series.
