LEWISTOWN, Mo. — Highland’s bats were hot on Thursday evening to help the Lady Cougars defeat Knox County 17-3 at home.

Highland was able to run-rule Knox County after five innings of play, boosted by the top of the lineup.

Lady Cougars leadoff hitter and shortstop Keera Rothweiler went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, five RBIs and a stolen base.

Out of the two-hole, Lady Cougars second baseman Addy Abell went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs, three runs and a stolen base.

It was a huge day for Highland three-hole hitter and catcher Bailie Crist, who went 3-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and two runs.

Other hitters got in the mix as well with center fielder Hannah Ritterbusch going 1-for-3 with a walk, stolen base, two runs and three RBIs, while right fielder Ali Lundberg went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs

Highland starting pitcher Abby Lay was the winning pitcher after throwing two innings with four strikeouts, while allowing no hits, six walks and one earned run.

Lay also went 1-for-2 with two walks at the plate.

Calyn Mathes pitched three scoreless innings in relief with one strikeout for Highland, while allowing one hit and no walks.

Highland (20-7) will close out the regular season with a home game against Scotland County (4-10) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
