MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – On this day October 10, 1982, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the California Angels three games to two to win the American League Pennant.
In winning, they also became the first team to overcome a 2-0 deficit and win the series.
The Brewers won game five in front of over 50,000 home fans by a score of 4-3.
The Brewers were out hit by the Angels 11 to 6, but strung together hits when it mattered.
First Baseman Cecil Cooper smashed a 2-RBI single, while left fielder Ben Oglivie crushed a solo home run.
Pete Vuckovich started for the Brewers, but it was Bob McClure picking up the win with his 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Brewers would advance to the 1982 World Series representing the American League, but would fall to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.
