Here are highlights from the Detroit Tigers’ 6-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday in Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Series at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the fourth. Parker Meadows hit a one-out single and came around on a double down the right-field line by Kerry Carpenter.
The Guardians made it 1-all in the fourth. George Valera led off with a double and scored on a single by Jose Ramirez. Dillon Dingler helped stall the Guardians by throwing out Ramirez on an attempted steal of second.
Dingler, an Ohio native, put the Tigers up 2-1 with a solo home run to left-center.
The Tigers broke open the game in the seventh for a 6-1 lead. Wenceel Perez drove in Javy Baez and Meadows with a two-run single to make it 4-1. Spencer Torkelson followed with another single, scoring Carpenter, and Riley Greene plated Perez, also with a single.
The Guardians got two back in the eighth. With two outs, Ramirez hit what appeared to be an inning-ending grounder to first. Torkelson fielded the ball and threw to Will Vest, who was covering first. The throw handcuffed Vest, however, and two runs scored. Vest retrieved the ball and threw to Baez at second, nabbing Ramirez, who was attempting to advance.
ABSOLUTE MADNESS
Tork fields. Tork throws a perfect dart to Will Vest. Vest clanks it. 2 runs score. Vest throws an absolute SEED to 2B to get Ramirez at 2nd.
What a wild play.
