After Friday’s marathon Game 5 win in the American League Division Series in which three starters pitched, the Seattle Mariners have landed on their starter for Game 1 of the AL Championship Series.

The 27-year-old Miller is set for his second start of the postseason. He pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two in Seattle’s Game 4 ALDS loss to Detroit on Wednesday, meaning he’ll face the Blue Jays off just three days rest.

Miller went 4-6 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 18 starts in the regular season. He spent two stints on the injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Miller faced the Blue Jays once this season back on May 11 at T-Mobile Park. He surrendered seven runs on eight hits and two walks and struck out three over five innings in his final start before his first IL stint.

The third-year starter has a career 0-2 record with eight runs allowed over 10 1/3 innings in two starts against Toronto. Sunday’s game will mark his first career start at Rogers Centre.

The Mariners’ decision to go with Miller in Game 1 comes after George Kirby, Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo all pitched in Friday’s 15-inning marathon to clinch the ALDS. Kirby pitched into the sixth inning, while Gilbert tossed two innings of relief and Castillo pitched 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen to pick up the win.

Another potential candidate to start Game 1 of the ALCS was right-hander Bryan Woo, who was left off the ALDS roster as he recovers from pectoral inflammation that forced him to leave a Sept. 19 start in Houston early. The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude reported that Woo is expected to be added to the ALCS roster but wasn’t expected to be available for Game 1.

First pitch of Game 1 of the ALCS is scheduled for 5:03 p.m. Sunday. Right-hander Kevin Gausman is set to take the mound for the Blue Jays.
