Troy Tulowitzki

It’s been a rough few years for Colorado Rockies fans, and the 2025 season didn’t help ease anyone’s concern. Although it’s a bit unorthodox, Troy Tulowitzki is the perfect dark horse hire for the Rockies.

Although most people know who Tulowitzki is, he’s been out of the MLB for quite some time now. Tulowitzki had a legendary career with the Rockies, and ultimately, his stardom faded due to injuries.

Tulowitzki retired in 2019 and has since been coaching college baseball at Texas. While this would be a steep jump, Tulowitzki has the baseball IQ to make it work.

Playing shortstop at an All-Star level for five years should remove any sort of doubt about whether Tulowitzki really knows the game well enough to be an MLB manager. The Rockies need to take a step toward bringing new energy to Colorado, and making a move to hire Tulowitzki is the move to make.

Colorado Rockies Hiring Troy Tulowitzki as Next Manager

Tulowitzki has been the assistant coach at Texas and he’s learning under Jim Schlossnagle. In Tulowitzki’s time with Texas, the program has found a ton of success.

On texaslonghorns.com they write that, “With Tulowitzki on staff, the Longhorns have advanced to the postseason each season and played in the College World Series twice – 2021 and 2022. Texas has produced the two highest home run totals in school history with Tulowitzki on staff, hitting 128 homers in 2022 and 112 in 2024.”

It’s clear that Tulowitzki isn’t just a player leveraging his MLB success to have a job after baseball. Tulowitzki has clearly been able to adjust to his new role well, and it shows by the results from Texas.

Not only that, but Tulowitzki was on the coaching staff as an assistant for the 2021 USA Baseball National team. Again, Tulowitzki doesn’t have any experience as a manager, so this would be a big jump, it’s not as if he doesn’t have any coaching experience at all.

Why Troy Tulowitzki Fits With the Colorado Rockies

Having Tulowitzki as the Rockies manager would bring a ton of juice to their offense. Although college and the MLB are very different, you saw what Tulowitzki was able to do at Texas.

Given his success and understanding of hitting, this shouldn’t be a shock. Now it takes more than that to be a good manager, but Tulowitzki also knows the culture of the Rockies organization.

Although Tulowitzki played on three teams, he had his peak with the Rockies. Of those 13 seasons, Tulowitzki spent 10 in Colorado.

What Hiring Troy Tulowitzki Would Mean for the Colorado Rockies

On the other side of the coin is that what the Rockies have been doing just hasn’t worked. The last time the Rockies won over 75 games was back in 2018. Something needs to change.

Is there a chance that Tulowitzki doesn’t pan out for the Rockies? Absolutely. There’s also a good shot that, given his experience with the organization and success with hitters, Tulowitzki could be a phenomenal hire for the Rockies.

Troy Tulowitzki Stats

While you don’t need to be an elite baseball player in order to be a good manager, that’s exactly what Tulowitzki was. Through 13 years, Tulowitzki had some elite stats

During that time, Tulowitzki was a two-time Gold Glove winner, he won the Silver Slugger award twice, and during his 2009 season, he had 32 home runs to pair with a 0.297 batting average. This move would be a bit out of the blue, but if the Rockies want to turn things around, making Tulowitzki their next hire is a good move.
