Pete Alonso’s throw to home missed the catcher by a country mile and led to the Yankees scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
The Bronx Bombers poured on five more runs in the inning in an 8-2 win over the Mets to take the rubber game of the Subway Series in The Bronx on Sunday.

The Yankees broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth when Jorbit Vivas hit into a fielder’s choice with runners on second and third, and Alonso sent the throw to the plate over the head of catcher Francisco Alvarez, allowing Jasson Domínguez to score.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a liner to center to drive in a second run and Cody Bellinger hit a grand slam to cap the Yankees’ offensive explosion. Bellinger had six RBIs.
The win helped the Yankees take the first Subway Series of the year and the two New York ball clubs won’t see each other again until the July 4th weekend.
