A public celebration of life event will be held on Saturday at JetBlue Park to honor Mike Greenwell, a Lee County commissioner and former Red Sox player, who passed away last week.The Lee County government announced that the celebration of life for Commissioner Mike Greenwell will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at JetBlue Park, 11500 Fenway South Drive.Greenwell, a Fort Myers native and former Major League Baseball player with the Boston Red Sox, died Thursday at age 62.Greenwell was appointed to the Lee County Board of Commissioners by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022 and was reelected in 2024. After retiring from professional baseball, he returned to Lee County where he raised a family and ran local businesses.Saturday’s memorial will feature tributes from Greenwell’s family, local elected officials and Boston Red Sox representatives. Attendees are encouraged to wear navy blue and red. The stadium concourse will showcase memorabilia, photos and music in celebration of his life. Attendees are also invited to share personal stories about Greenwell.The Lee County Public Safety Honor Guard will present the colors.The public should enter through Gate D, which opens at 11:30 a.m. Bottled water will be provided, and attendees will be subject to security screening similar to that at Spring Training games. Greenwell, a Fort Myers native and former Major League Baseball player with the Boston Red Sox, died Thursday at age 62.
