ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt has retired.
The UNC Asheville alum informed the team over the weekend of his plans.

He told the San Diego Union-Tribune that the job had severely affected him mentally.
It comes nine days after the Cubs eliminated the Padres in the wild-card round.

Shildt went 183-141 as manager in San Diego.
The Padres won 90 games this season and finished second in the NL West.
