James McHugh, 66, passed away, and his next of kin have been notified, according to police.
MIDLAND, Texas — The Texas Rangers are investigating after a 66-year-old man reportedly died in Midland police custody on Monday.
According to the Midland Police Department, at 1:25 p.m., officers responded to the West Wind Motel in the 3800 block of West Wall Street due to an “advise-of-rights” call.
Police say, “during an arrest of a man for criminal trespass, he began displaying symptoms consistent with the onset of a medical event.”
EMS was reportedly called to the scene and CPR was done by officers.
According to police, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the man died.
The man was identified as James McHugh, and next of kin have been notified.
The Texas Rangers were reportedly notified and are investigating the custodial death in accordance with MPD policy.
