Yankees fans have a reputation for being cruel.

The latest incident(s) occurred during the AL Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, when reports surfaced of opposing players’ families being harassed in the stands.

Ahead of Game 1 of the AL Championship Series on Sunday, Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage used his time before media members to address fan interactions with family members.

“I want to start off by saying something,” Yesavage said, via X/Twitter. “Living in this world where there’s so many different opinions and feelings, which results in a lot of hate, it’s sad to see that people close to me are being attacked for my performances on the field. …

“I know I have the platform to address it, so I am. I hope that people can realize that those individuals have nothing to do with what happens on the field or whatnot. If you have a problem, I’m a man; I can take whatever opinions anybody has about me or life. So I just wanted to get that out there.”

The most widely publicized incident allegedly occurred between Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s family and Yankees fans in the deciding Game 4 of the ALDS. According to a video posted by the respected Dominican sports reporter, Hector Gómez, a can was thrown at Guerrero’s family members during a verbal altercation with fans at Yankee Stadium.

Given Yesavage’s remarks, it seems Guerrero’s family wasn’t the only one facing harassment in the stands.

The Blue Jays dropped the first game of the AL Championship Series 3-1 against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.

It looked like Toronto was going to run away with the game after George Springer’s lead-off home run. That was the only run the Blue Jays would score in the first game of a best-of-7 series for the pennant.
