CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brent Suter has been nominated for a second MLB award for his work off the field. He’s one of three finalists for the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award, a distinguished honor as voted by his peers.
The Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award is given to the Player “whose leadership most inspires others to higher levels of achievement.” Other finalists are Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Pete Fairbanks. None of the three players have ever won the honor — and nobody in Reds history has been named the winner in the 28 years of existence.
Suter’s community involvement is extensive. He serves as a board member for the Reds Community Fund, which provides baseball, softball, and educational initiatives to underserved areas. In 2025, he collaborated with former Bengals player Sam Hubbard and Shoes 4 the Shoeless to provide new shoes to children in need. Suter also participated in a reverse autograph signing with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital patients, where the children signed cards for Reds players. He is a regular during Make-A-Wish visits during the season, as well.
His commitment to sustainability is evident through his work with La Soupe, which rescues food to create meals for the less fortunate, and his role as an ambassador for Players for the Planet and Ocean Conservancy. Suter’s initiative, “Protect Where We Play,” aims to eliminate plastic waste at sports venues.
Suter’s impact extends to the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League, where he supports inclusive baseball opportunities for athletes with special abilities. His efforts in the community are a testament to his leadership and dedication to making a positive difference.
He also wrote a children’s book titled “The Binky Bandit” that was released on June 6, 2022.
Suter is also a nominee this year for the Roberto Clemente Award, which exemplifies leadership and community service. He was named as one of three finalists for MLB’s Philanthropist of the Year Award in 2024.
The Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award forms part of the Players Choice Awards
The 26-year-old Suter, a Moeller High School alumnus, lives in Cincinnati with his wife, Erin, and two sons. He is 42-24 with a 3.57 ERA over 348 games in a 10-year career.
