A friendly wager between archbishops over the Brewers-Cubs playoff series resulted in Chicago-style pizza being served to Milwaukee’s Catholic community. The event took place Monday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Milwaukee.Before the National League Wild Card Series, the archbishops of Milwaukee and Chicago made a bet that the losing city would send local food to the winning city’s archbishop. After Milwaukee’s victory over Chicago, Lou Malnati’s pizzeria provided deep dish pizzas to serve at the Cathedral Cafe.For Todd Barry, the pizza donation stirred emotional memories. “I used to get a personal pan pizza after I did my shift in the kitchen. And she’d have me slice it into four and she’d wait up cause she just loved this pizza,” Barry said, referring to his late mother.In a gesture of goodwill, despite winning the wager, Milwaukee’s Bunzel’s Meat Market plans to donate 100 bratwursts to feed people in Chicago.
