Former Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton is among the candidates under consideration for the Minnesota Twins managerial vacancy, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Shelton, 55, was hired by the Pirates for the 2020 season and served in the role until he was fired in May. Shelton managed 746 games in Pittsburgh and accumulated a 306-440 (.410) record. Under his watch, the Pirates never finished better than fourth place in the National League Central division.

Shelton was replaced in Pittsburgh by former bench coach Don Kelly on May 8. Kelly had his contract extended last month and will continue to serve as manager of the Pirates.

The Twins are seeking a new manager after dismissing Rocco Baldelli following the conclusion of the regular season after seven seasons at the helm.

Prior to getting hired by the Pirates, Shelton served for two seasons as the Twins bench coach from 2018-19, the second of which was under Baldelli. Shelton was also a Major-League coach for the Cleveland Indians (2005-09), Tampa Bay Rays (2010-16) and Toronto Blue Jays (2017).

In addition to Shelton, Boston Red Sox bench coach and Ramon Vazquez and New York Yankees hitting coach James Rowson are among the other candidates under consideration.
