Braves Freddie Freeman

The Braves place a heavy emphasis on defense, and it’s resulted in a lot of Gold Gloves over the years. But this season, only two players have been named finalists — Matt Olson at first base, and Nick Allen at shortstop.

If Matt Olson doesn’t win the Gold Glove Award at first base, it would be nothing short of a robbery. It would mark the second Gold Glove of his career and his first with the Atlanta Braves.

Nick Allen also has a strong case not just for the Gold Glove, but for being recognized as the best defensive player in all of baseball. If Allen could ever hit, he’d likely have a closet full of these by the end of his career. However, the fact that he played sparingly over the final month of the season following the acquisition of Ha-Seong Kim likely hurts his chances of taking home his first Gold Glove.

As far as snubs go, I’m not sure what Michael Harris II has to do to win a Gold Glove. Center field is one of the most competitive positions in baseball, filled with elite defenders, but Harris is right there among them. At the very least, you’d think he’d be a finalist.
