Texas Rangers investigate death of 66-year-old after arrest

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A Midland man died Monday afternoon while being treated by EMS services. Midland Police were responding to an advise-of-rights call at the West Wind Motel at approximately 1:25 pm. The man would be identified as 66-year-old James McHugh.

During the arrest, MPD says that McHugh began displaying symptoms consistent with the onset of a medical event. From there, medical services were called to the scene to where CPR was performed on McHugh. Unfortunately, EMS personnel were not successful, and McHugh passed away.

The Texas Rangers were notified and are investigating the custodial death in accordance with MPD policy.

McHugh’s next of kin were notified of his passing.
