SEATTLE — The Mariners’ lovable loser-no-more salmon mascot Humpy will be honored Thursday ahead of the ALCS Game 4 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Oct. 16, 2025, will officially be proclaimed as “Humpy Day,” the mayor’s office announced.
Humpy had been 0-162 in “Salmon Run” races in between innings at Mariners games until the 15th inning of the Mariners thriller to send the team to the next round of the postseason.
In between the top and bottom of the 15th inning Friday, the Mariners decided to run a second race with the four salmon mascots: Sockeye, King, Silver, and Humpy.
Humpy prevailed, and the Mariners did too immediately afterwards on Jorge Polanco’s walk-off single.
“Seattle is all in,” said Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. “Our city is standing behind the Mariners and ready for this historic run.”
“From the team’s incredible performance and continued victories to Humpy’s unforgettable win, we’ve seen how this team brings people together,” Harrell added. “Thursday’s rally is our chance to keep that momentum going — to show our pride, celebrate our city, and ‘Seize the Moment’ together.”
Harrell will proclaim the day in honor of Humpy at a rally and march at the Seattle City Hall at 2 p.m.
The rally will feature community and sports leaders, fans, and the University of Washington marching band.
The crowd will march together from city hall to T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners host Game 3 Wednesday and Game 4 Thursday. If necessary, Game 5 will be in Seattle on Friday.
