Jason Varitek’s contract is up with the Red Sox, but MassLive reported he’s expected back on Alex Cora’s staff when the 2026 season begins.

While nothing is official, it appears things are trending in the right direction in terms of Varitek signing a new contract to remain in Boston.

During an appearance on WEEI on Wednesday, Varitek revealed chief baseball officer Craig Breslow reached out to him over the weekend and the two are set to “have a conversation” on Wednesday.

Varitek has been a uniformed personnel member since 2021. but has held a slew of roles with the organization since retiring in 2012. He was the team’s game planning and run prevention coach for 2025.

“You have to see everything that goes on. Have I dumped everything I’ve had to make this organization better? And the people that you mentor, coach, and be a part of? Yes. Do I want to continue to do that? Yes,” Varitek said on WEEI. “But I have to see where it all lies.”

Varitek made it clear he wants to return to the Red Sox.

With several MLB teams needing a manager, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Varitek garner interest. As of Wednesday, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, no team has requested to interview Varitek.
