MLB announced today that two Athletics players, outfielder Tyler Soderstrom and starting pitcher Luis Severino have been named 2025 Rawlings Gold Glove Award nominees. The Gold Glove Award recognizes the best defensive players at each position across Major League Baseball. This is extra-impressive considering that Soderstrom didn’t even start the year as the A’s starting left fielder, beginning the season as the team’s first baseman.
According to the A’s media team, Soderstrom transitioned seamlessly into left field after opening the season as the team’s primary first baseman. He finished third among AL left fielders in defensive runs saved (10) and tallied 11 outfield assists — the most by an Athletic since 2015 — in his first year at the position.
Severino put together a flawless defensive campaign, finishing the year without an error while ranking second among American League pitchers in both assists (24) and defensive runs saved (6). He also made 29 starts, posting an 8–11 record with a 4.54 ERA and 124 strikeouts, anchoring the A’s rotation.
