The Los Angeles Rams took on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday in Week 6, and with their Week 7 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars set to kick off in at Wembley Stadium in London this upcoming Sunday, the team decided to stick around on the East Coast this week.
While the Rams don’t have a football facility to work, they’ve been given the opportunity to practice at the Baltimore Orioles’ Camden Yards to prepare for their battle with the Jaguars.
On Wednesday, Los Angeles held their first practice of the week at the baseball stadium, and a few Rams spoke about their accommodations, including head coach Sean McVay.
“First of all, I just want to thank the Baltimore Orioles,” McVay said. “What an amazing opportunity and how gracious they’ve been to offer up the opportunity to be able to use their facilities. It’s a really cool thing for our players and hopefully it’s going to lead to a great week of preparation. We had a good walkthrough and we’re looking forward to having a good practice, so very grateful for them…. “No, there’s no limitations. It’s unbelievable. We might not be able to take some of the vertical shots. We’re a little bit more limited with some of the vertical grass, but that’s probably a good thing. We’ll be able to do everything. We have two spot walkthroughs. We’ll be able to get individual. We’ll be able to come together in team settings and activate all parts of the field. It’s a pretty damn cool setting so we’re excited about it.”
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who said he dreamed of playing professional baseball when he was younger, seemed excited about the opportunity, but sees not much of a difference when he’s actually practicing.
“When I’m under center, no,” Stafford said. “When defense is up or special teams is going I take a peek around. it’s pretty cool. It’s really cool for us to be able to use the dugout and clubhouse, all that kind of stuff. It’s cool for our guys to see what they go through on a daily basis and some of their stuff. Guys that used to play baseball are fired off to be here.”
Rams wide receiver Davante Adams agreed with Stafford that there wasn’t much of a difference for him. However, he did mention how crazy it is that teams used to play games on baseball diamonds.
“It’s just grass. We have enough space,” Adams said. “We’re not really using 100 yards normally. I know the defense is probably not thrilled about having 25 yards of field here. I mean, they can work on red zone stuff so we’ll be okay… The optics of it is obviously a lot different. Like I said, it’s just grass at the end of the day. Barring nobody ends up in the infield here, I think we’ll be okay…
“I think whoever was the head of the CBA at that point, we have talk. We have to somehow bring them back up and we can’t let them get away with this because that’d be crazy. I would not want to fall on this [dirt]. They were playing on it when I was in the league too. I just never had the privilege of playing on a baseball infield before.”
