For over sixteen years, a man has allegedly forced his dogs — named Coffee, Sushi, and Lola — to pose for photos outside Citi Field in heavy Mets-themed costumes, often for hours in extreme heat or rain. These animals aren’t props or mascots; they’re living beings deserving of rest, care, and respect. Dogs don’t exist for our entertainment. It’s time for Mets leadership, Lewis Sherr and Samantha Engelhardt, to take real action.
The Mets have publicly stated they’re not affiliated with this man’s act, but words aren’t enough. Allowing this exploitation to continue on their property makes them complicit. The organization must permanently ban this so-called “Mets Dog” performer and make it clear that animal cruelty has no place outside Citi Field.
