CLEVELAND — The Guardians’ push for a playoff spot continues Sept. 12 against the Chicago White Sox at Progressive Field.
After taking three of four games against the Kansas City Royals, the Guardians have taken care of their own business but are still struggling to make up ground in the wild card race as they fight to stay alive.

Tanner Bibee just missed out on a Maddux, but he tossed a shutout, and the Guardians beat the White Sox 4-0.
Bibee was helped out by Nolan Jones, who saved a run with a great diving catch to end the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Bibee finished with 10 strikeouts and only two hits allowed. The Guardians have won seven of their last eight games.
Angel Martinez added an insurance run via a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the eighth, giving Bibee and the Guardians a 4-0 lead.
Bibee will, in fact, be given the ball for the ninth inning.

Bibee has allowed only two hits and struck out nine across those eight scoreless innings, and he’s only at 90 pitches, giving him a good chance to return in the ninth inning to try to go for the shutout.
The Guardians gave him some extra breathing room in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gabriel Arias doubled down the left-field line and scored via Nolan Jones’ single back up the middle.
With Jhonkensy Noel on second base, Austin Hedges brought home a run via a broken-bat single into shallow left field, giving the Guardians a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
A chunk of Hedges’ bat sailed toward third base as Noel was rounding the bag and heading for home plate.
Bibee has been terrific on the mound, and the lineup has now given him a 2-0 lead via a blast and a broken-bat blooper.
David Fry has broken the tie.
Still scoreless in the fourth, Fry drilled a solo home run to left field that has given the Guardians a 1-0 lead.

The Guardians have a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox beginning Sept. 12. They’ll then be on the road all the following week, with three games against the Detroit Tigers and then four games in Minnesota to face the Twins.
