MIAMI (KAIT) – A Red Wolf continues a hot streak in Major League Baseball.
Liam Hicks hit a two-run home run in the 6th inning on Sunday as the Marlins beat the Rays 5-1. The Arkansas State baseball alum also singled in the 2nd to cap a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Behind the plate, Hicks had the best seat in the house as Marlins starting pitcher Cal Quantrill threw an immaculate inning in the 4th.
The Marlins catcher is hitting .282 this season with 4 home runs and 20 RBI. Hicks has recorded 7 hits, 3 homers, and 6 RBI in his last 5 games.
The Canadian was selected by Miami in the 2024 MLB Rule 5 Draft. He spent last season in AA with Frisco (Rangers) and Erie (Pirates), hitting .264 with 6 HR and 47 RBI. Hicks shined in the 2024 postseason for Erie. He collected 7 hits in 5 games as the Seawolves won the Eastern League Championship.
The catcher got on the MLB radar after a breakout campaign in the 2023 Arizona Fall League. He led the league with a .449 batting average, was 3rd with 31 hits and a 1.075 OPS.
Hicks was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 9th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He’s top 10 in Arkansas State history with a career .340 batting average.
