It’s supposed to be March that comes in like a lion but for the 2025 Red Sox that’s been May. And more than half way through the month it sure doesn’t seem to be going out like a lamb. After an embarrassing series against the Atlanta Braves, Fenway Park will now host the New York Mets.

Way back on Thanksgiving Day 2024 current Met and giant contract holder Juan Soto was rumored to be close to signing in Boston. The outsider sources all pointed fingers at the baseball scoopsmen and said they were not getting the respect they deserved. Well, sure enough, the cadre that missed on Xander Bogaerts staying in Boston was wrong again. Juan Soto’s sister (probably) did not find an apartment in Boston. But Soto did sign with the Mets and the Mets are now living the good life: first place in the NL East, second most wins in baseball after the Detroit Tigers, etc. etc. etc.

Soto himself has merely been very good: .826 OPS with 8 homers and 5 steals.

Pete Alonso, unwanted all winter, is batting .302 with an OPS over .950 and 9 homers.

Francisco Lindor has 9 homers and 6 steals himself in the leadoff spot looking for a 30-20 season.

Kodai Senga is healthy again. Clay Holmes is a converted reliever who seems great in the rotation. Soto is a free agent signed to a very high yearly salary. These are similar moves and makeup to the Sox but everything is coming up Millhouse in NYC.

This series is going to be a problem for a team simply falling apart at the seams.

The Red Sox had an 11-15 September in 2024. This May the team is, so far, at 6-9 with 12 games to go. Thankfully four of those are against the Baltimore Orioles.
