The ALCS came to a close last night with the Blue Jays ending up the victors. They are returning to their first World Series in nearly 40 years thanks to their winning over the Mariners, 4-3.
While the game will rightfully be remembered for George Springer driving a baseball over the wall for a three run home run to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh, there was another decision that led to that fateful drive. With one out and runners on second and third, a two run lead in hand, Dan Wilson went to relieve Bryan Woo and brought in not his closer, Andres Munoz, to stop the highest of leverage situations, but Eduard Bazardo. Bazardo has been decent this postseason, but Munoz hadn’t allowed a hit in his outings this postseason. It was definitely a decision to bring in Bazardo over Munoz.
So what did you think of that decision? In terms of Phillies, it’s akin to Rob Thomson not bringing in Jhoan Duran when the highest leverage spot called for it and if he didn’t, we’d be calling for his immediate dismissal.
