A year after David Bell was fired as the Cincinnati Reds manager, he helped take the Toronto Blue Jays to the World Series for the first time in decades.

The Blue Jays secured their spot in the World Series for the first time since 1993 on Oct. 20, after a thrilling end to the American League Championship Series.

Toronto beat the Seattle Mariners 4-3 in Game 7 and will take on the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bell is the vice president of baseball operations and assistant general manager for the team. The Blue Jays hired Bell in November 2024, roughly two months after the Reds fired him with one week left in the regular season.

Bell, a former Moeller High School standout and the son of former Reds player Buddy Bell and grandson of Reds Hall of Famer Gus Bell, was the Reds’ manager for six seasons.

The Cincinnati native oversees player development and the physical and mental performance departments for Toronto, the club previously said. He also advises on player evaluations and acquisitions.

In 2018, Bell was among the candidates to interview with Toronto before the Blue Jays hired Charlie Montoyo to replace John Gibbons as manager.
