The Brewers victory against the Cubs in Game 5 of the NLDS series on Saturday, Oct. 11, brought many fans to tears.
“Let’s go Brewers,” the crowd repeatedly cheered in the bottom of the 9th inning. And with the final out, the crowd erupted as cheers filled the stadium.
Fan Brian Glaeser couldn’t help but cry with happiness after the Brewers win.
“Everybody said we couldn’t do it. Everybody said we couldn’t do it and we did it,” said Glaeser.
Glaeser said he has been a season ticket holder for nearly 30 years and has passed down his love for the Brewers to his family.
“I’m just proud of this fanbase for sticking together,” said Glaeser’s son, Brett. “This team for dominating two division titles and now winning it for Ueck and knocking the Cubs off is super cool.”
Fans said this victory has been a long time coming and never tasted sweeter.
“I really wanted to beat the Cubs, and it feels good with Counsell having left the team, so it feels gratifying,” Brewers fan Dan Curran said.
Many fans said they believe “Mr. Baseball” Bob Uecker must have had a hand in this victory.
“I think Uecker, I mean, I wrote Ueck on my shoes today,” said Nikki Glaeser. “I know he’s sitting over watching and laughing, thinking, ‘You guys did it.’”
“Yea, he’s an all-timer,” said fan Joe Ragusa. “You can’t replace guys like that.”
The Brewers hope the magic carries into the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers.
Curran and his daughter Lucy said they can’t wait.
“We got tickets for Monday against the Dodgers,” said Curran. “We’re not done yet; we’re not done.”
