In the spirit of fall cleaning, the Yankees have some scrubbing to do on their 40-man roster.

Shortly after the end of the World Series, teams must reinstate players from the 60-day injured list, decide on club options (with players doing the same for their player options) and get back to a maximum of 40 players on the roster.

For the Yankees, whose 40-man roster currently features 44 players (including four on the 60-day IL), they will make room simply by having eight players enter free agency (plus a ninth, Cody Bellinger, when he exercises his player opt-out).

But there is more work to be done in the aftermath with the tender deadline looming soon after, players needing to be added to the 40-man to protect them from the Rule 5 draft and then free agency beginning.
