College Station Council to vote on $55M baseball complex, overnight parking and Northgate small area plan

  • October 24, 2025

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The College Station City Council is set to convene on October 23 to discuss a packed agenda, including proposals for new baseball fields, overnight parking regulations and an update on the Northgate Small Area Plan.

A significant item on the docket is a proposal for a nine-turf baseball field complex. The plan, put forth by A Brush Above Services for the Southern Roots Baseball Complex, suggests developing 80 acres of land in Midtown Park, located behind Costco.

The estimated cost for the project is $55 million, with the city potentially contributing between $15 million and $20 million, depending on whether a championship field is included.

Chief Development Officer Michael Ostrowski highlighted the benefits of a public-private partnership for the complex.

“The Southern Roots Baseball Complex is looking to use the facility during the daytime hours and during the week, as well as the weekends for tournament play,” Ostrowski said. “Whereas a lot of the city needs come during the weekdays in the evening hours, so that would allow for free access through a city agreement for those fields during that point in time to maximize the use of those fields,” Ostrowski explained.

This new proposal could impact earlier plans announced in 2024 to build three additional baseball fields at Veterans Park. The council will decide whether to proceed with one or both projects.

In addition to sports facilities, the council will address overnight parking options for residential areas near the Texas A&M University campus. The discussion will include feedback from a recent public meeting, with the goal of reducing street congestion.

CS City Council will meet to consider a baseball complex in Midtown Park, overnight parking near Texas A&M’s campus and the Northgate small area plan.

Council members will also receive an update on the Northgate Small Area Plan. This comprehensive plan covers the area along University Drive from Wellborn Road to Texas Avenue. It encompasses Northgate, Century Square, Hensel Park, and Northpoint Crossing.

A committee of College Station residents, council members and business owners collaborated on the plan over six months, presenting their findings to the council in July. Discussions were tabled at that time to allow for further review of the information.

The regular city council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on October 23.
