A little more than a month ago, right-hander Trey Yesavage made his major-league debut for the Blue Jays. On Friday night, the 22-year-old takes the ball in Game 1 of the World Series. He is 2-1 in three postseason starts, with a 4.20 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 15 innings while striking out 22. For the fourth straight series, lefty Blake Snell starts in Game 1 for Los Angeles. He has been outstanding in the playoffs, with three wins and a 0.86 ERA to go with a 0.52 WHIP in 21 innings with 28 punchouts.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leads Toronto into the series after winning MVP honors in the Jays’ seven-game triumph over the Seattle Mariners in the American League championship series. Guerrero slashed .385/.484/.846 with three home runs against the Mariners.
National League Championship Series MVP Shohei Ohtani had a game for the ages as the Dodgers finished up a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. Ohtani slugged three home runs while limiting the Brewers to two hits in six-plus innings, striking out 10. Ohtani had been just 2-for-12 in the series prior to his outburst in Game 4 after a 1-for-18 showing in the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies.
