Red Sox prospect Johanfran Garcia homered in Salt River’s 5-4 loss to Scottsdale in an Arizona Fall League game on Friday.

The 20-year-old Garcia connected on an 86.5 mph sweeper from righty Anderson Brito, who is considered one of the two top pitching prospects in the Astros’ system. The right-handed hitter pulled it 349 feet to left field, a towering shot with a 34 degree launch angle.

He is 9-for-39 (.231) with a .333 on-base percentage, one home run, two doubles, five RBIs, seven runs, six walks and eight strikeouts in 10 games for Salt River.

Garcia is the brother of Red Sox outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia, who made his MLB debut in 2025.

Garcia showed impressive home run power in his return this season after tearing ligaments in his knee in a game for Low-A Salem on May 1, 2024. He missed more than a year after he underwent major knee surgery.

Garcia finished tied for eighth in home runs (12) among Red Sox minor leaguers this season, an impressive feat considering he played in only 58 minor league games.

The Venezuelan catcher was ranked No. 14 on Baseball America’s Red Sox Top 30 list before his injury. BA no longer has him ranked but MLB Pipeline ranks him Boston’s No. 28 prospect.

Garcia and 19-year-old Venezuelan prospect Jorge Rodriguez are the two top catching prospects in Boston’s system.
