Kudos to Jason Guarente for the great sports column in the Oct. 19 Sunday LNP | LancasterOnline about Danny Murtaugh (“There was a time when World Series magic could be found right next door”).

I grew up in Kane, McKean County, where everyone is a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. I’ve been a fan for 60-plus years and remember the day Bill Mazeroski hit that ninth-inning home run and the Bucs won the 1960 World Series like it was yesterday.

Thank you for showing the “ordinary” side of Danny Murtaugh — inarguably one of the greatest managers the Bucs have ever had. The finale of the column and Murtaugh bringing home the Pirates baseballs and gloves for the neighborhood boys was the crowning touch to a great human interest story. Go Bucs!
