The Baltimore Orioles have picked former associate manager and bench coach Craig Albernaz as its newest manager for the upcoming MLB season.Albernaz was last with the Cleveland Guardians were he was an associate manager in 2025. He was with the Guardians for two season where he also served as bench coach. He has previous coaching experience with the San Francisco Giants for four seasons as a bullpen and catching coach. “I am deeply honored and humbled to join the storied Baltimore Orioles organization,” said Albernaz. “This is a tremendous honor, and I’m grateful to Mike Elias and the entire Orioles team for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading this talented club.”The former catcher was a career minor leaguer with the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers for eight seasons until 2014. He would start his coaching in 2015 with the Rays organization and would serve as various coaches in the minors. He got his first shot at manager with the Rays’ high-A affiliate, Bowling Green Hot Rods’, where he would win the 2018 Midwest League Manager of the Year.Albernaz has been considered for other manager positions and was a finalist for the Chicago White Sox and the Miami Marlins last season. He takes over a team that is coming off a disappointing season that saw them lose 87 games. This club does have a young core of players that have had success in the past, and may have been the factor in his decision to join the club.
