Enquirer/Beacon athlete of week Ohio girls cross country
Ohio girls cross country is the Oct. 27, 2025, Enquirer/Beacon Orthopaedics athlete of the week featured category.
Kim Nuxhall, the son of Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame broadcaster and former pitcher Joe Nuxhall, posted Oct. 27 on Facebook that the Miracle League bocce courts in Fairfield were vandalized during the same weekend in which the Marty Brennaman bronze statue outside Great American Ball Park was damaged.
Kim Nuxhall is board chairman of the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields.
“Motivation to continue our quest to teach character,” Nuxhall wrote. “Interesting irony this past weekend. Virtually within 48 hrs of each other….Marty’s statue was damaged (broken microphone) and our Miracle League Bocce Courts (Home of the Butler County Special Olympics Bocce Team) were vandalized. Fortunately the person responsible for Marty’s damage was captured on camera and we have four young people on our camera that we will be working on identifying in the next few days. The incident occurred (Friday Oct. 24th) from 5:30p.m. till about 6:30p.m. this past Friday, three of the young men were skate boarding on the courts then began running and jumping up against the fence, throwing rocks and then bashing the wood planks with a couple of large rocks, with a young lady watching under the pavilion. The John Lomax Pavilion of Character I might add. May this serve as a teachable moment to a parent of a young person on how “not” to treat property.
In 2013, Fairfield Community Foundation granted $5,000 to build the bocce ball courts in Fairfield at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields.
