Santa Clarita high school teams are two games deep into the CIF playoffs for both baseball, with one team bowing out in the first round.
West Ranch (21-9):

The Foothill League Champions began their postseason with a narrow 4-3 win over Palm Desert.

West Ranch had a solid second inning, and it proved to be enough to seal the game for them.

They collected four runs in the inning from Cayden Wilson, Connor Clayton, Ryan Oh and Hunter Manning, who had the game’s only home run.

Palm Desert was only able to get a run in the fourth inning and followed it with a pair of runs in the fifth inning.

For the remaining four innings, both teams looked in and didn’t allow any runs. It worked in West Ranch’s favor because they were up.

Off the plate and on the mound, Manning was also having a good time, tallying six strikeouts.

West Ranch will have its first home game of the postseason Tuesday when it hosts Crean Lutheran at 3:15 p.m.

Hart (14-13):

Hart’s performance was not what they hoped it to be, falling to Cajon 4-2.

The game was a tight one for the majority of the game, having been tied one a piece for the first four innings. It was a pivotal fifth inning where Cajon put up three runs to pull ahead 4-1. It wasn’t until the last inning that Hart scored another run to bring the game to its eventual final score of 4-2.

Saugus (17-12):

Saugus had the most dominant first round of any other Santa Clarita team, having picked up a 22-3 win over Wiseburn – Da Vinci.

Nearly the entire roster earned a run in the game, with several players earning multiple runs. Kaden Haag, Zackery Seeley and Abraham Ramirez had three runs. Two of Seeley’s runs came via home runs.

James Frias, Banning Sheff, JD Lawless, Jake Kaplan and Matthew Carta each had a pair of runs.

Matt Long, Cade Anderson and Owen Kreuzberger each had runs as well. Outside of scoring runs, Seeley was making opportunities to score as well and had tallied nine RBIs.

The Centurions’ first three innings set them up for success, having scored six, four and seven runs.

Now that Di Vinci is behind them, Saugus turns their attention to Murrieta Mesa, who’s coming off a 6-0 over Santa Monica. This game will take place on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Castaic (19-10):

The Coyotes narrowly got past Paloma Valley 7-6 on Friday. Castaic had a bulk of their points come in the third and fourth innings, where they scored six of their seven points.

Whereas Paloma Valley scored their six points in the last three innings, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Despite a slow start from Paloma Valley, they nearly made a comeback that would have sent them to the next round of the playoffs, but Castaic held on and is set to play Crescenta Valley Tuesday at 3:15 p.m..

Valencia (14-13):

Valencia proceeded to the second round of the CIF playoffs after downing Northview 4-1.

Junior Justin Gaisfor led the charge with two runs and three hits. Cole DeYoung and Noah Jaquez each had a run of their own.

Lincoln Hunt was the team leader for RBIs with three, while Tyler Wertz is the only other player with an RBI.

Now the Vikings move on to play Dos Pueblos on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

Trinity Classical Academy (21-2):

The Heritage League Champions rode a four-game win streak into the playoffs with a 3-2 win over Don Lugo.

The Knights had a solid fourth inning with three runs being scored by Luke Backes, Andrew Carlson and Isaac Saroughian.

Don Lugo wasn’t too far off the mark, having scored two runs, one in the third and sixth innings by Steven Marker and Ishmael Fox.

With the win, Trinity moves on to the next round to play Grand Terrace on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
