When Brad Paisley sings “by dawn’s early light” during the national anthem prior to a World Series game, he nearly means that literally.
It also means fans in attendance will likely be in for a long night.
The country singer sang the national anthem before the Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the Toronto Blue Jays for Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night. The game lasted 6 hours and 39 minutes and ended with a Freddie Freeman walk-off home run for LA.
Paisley also sang the national anthem ahead of the Dodgers’ World Series Game 3 against the Boston Red Sox in 2018 — a game that lasted 7 hours and 20 minutes.
MLB.com’s Theo DeRosa noted that Paisley sang the “Star-Bangled Banner” four times in the World Series at Dodger Stadium and each time it went into extra innings: Game 2 in when they Houston Astros won, 7-6, in 11 innings, Game 3 in 2018 when the Dodgers beat the Red Sox, 3-2, in 18 innings, Game 1 in 2024 when the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees, 6-3, in 10 innings and Game 3 on Monday when LA walked it off with a 6-5 win in 18 innings.
The Dodgers are 3-1 when Paisley sings the national anthem at the World Series.
The Dodgers and the Blue Jays combined to use 19 pitchers that threw 609 pitches. The game ended at 2:50 a.m. on the East Coast. Many fans stayed for the entirety of the game, including Dodgers legend Sandy Koufax.
