ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) – On this day in 1995, the Atlanta Braves won the World Series for the third time, defeating the Cleveland Indians in Game 6.
The Braves faced the Indians, who had put up a fight with wins in games 3 and 5. Atlanta needed one more win to secure the championship.
The Braves didn’t let Cleveland score in Game 6. Braves pitchers Tom Glavine and Mark Wohlers barely let the Indians hit.
At the bottom of the sixth inning, right-fielder David Justice hit a solo home run. That was all Atlanta needed to win the 1995 World Series.
Since the 1990s, Atlanta has maintained their status as a leading franchise in Major League Baseball. The team won another World Series championship in 2021.
