Longtime New York Yankees analyst and Rockland County native John Flaherty is out at YES Network amid network-wide shake up.

Flaherty, 58, spent the last 20 years with the network and announced his contract would not be renewed for the 2026 season on X on Oct. 29.

“So I was informed yesterday that I will not be offered a contract from YES for next season!,” Flaherty’s post said. “I am very grateful for my 20 years at the Network. I want to thank the Yankees and especially the Yankee fans. Thank you for letting me be a little part of your day for 20 seasons!”

According to multiple reports citing a YES spokesperson, part-time analysts Jeff Nelson and Dave Valle also won’t be returning to the network next season.

Here’s what to know.

What are Flaherty’s Hudson Valley ties?

Flaherty grew up in West Nyack, New York and kicked off his baseball career in the West Nyack Little League before playing for St. Joseph’s Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey.

After earning a scholarship to and playing for George Washington University, the catcher was drafted in the 25th round of the 1988 MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox, making his professional debut four years later in 1992.

Flaherty played over 1,000 games for the Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays and ultimately ended his career with the Yankees in 2005 before being picked up by YES Network immediately after his retirement.

Nicknamed “Flash,” Flaherty was inducted into the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame, founded the Frontier League’s New York Boulders, who play in the town of Ramapo, and currently resides in Pearl River with his wife and three children.
