The Texas Rangers announced they hired Bret Boone to be a hitting coach on Monday, May 5.. The team fired Donnie Ecker as offensive coordinator on Sunday amid a tough start for the Rangers’ offense.
Boone played 14 seasons for the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins, earning four all-star selections, four Golden Gloves and two Silver Sluggers.

Boone previously played under Rangers manager Bruce Bochy when the pair were both members of the San Diego Padres organization in 2000.
The former second baseman served as a scout and roving instructor for the Athletics organization.
Boone’s brother, Aaron, father, Bob, and grandfather, Ray, all played in the MLB, with each family member earning an all-star selection during their career.
The Rangers are 3-7 in their last 10 games and have only scored more than two runs only twice in the span as injuries and substandard play have hampered the offense.
