The Arizona Fall League is in full swing, and so are some of the Rockies’ top prospects. There are eight of them currently in the desert, and some are turning heads.
Earlier this week, we asked which prospect has impressed you so far (though we left out Ben Shields because he hadn’t made his AFL debut at the time of the original poll). Overwhelmingly and unsurprisingly, infielder Charlie Condon won the fan vote.
As of Friday, Condon has been slashing .356/.441/.458 with one double, one triple, and one home run (a grand slam). He also has 11 RBI, 15 runs scored, eight walks and 12 strikeouts. He ranks among Salt River Rafters’ leaders in runs scored (2nd), hits (1st), triples (T-1st), RBIs (3rd), walks (T-4th), AVG (3rd), OBP (4th), and SLG (5th). Not too shabby!
In second place was RHP Welinton Herrera. Herrera has made six appearances out of the bullpen and owns a 1.29 ERA in seven innings. He has allowed just four hits and one run while striking out 11. He’s given up seven walks, but still owns a 1.57 WHIP and .167 average against. The ERA is second best on the Rafters (behind three others that have 0.00’s), the WHIP ranks ninth, and the average is tied for fifth.
In the meantime, though, here’s what our writers had to say this week:
